What is a BNC 50Ω Type RF Connector
Summary
BNC (Bayonet Neill Concelman)50Ω type rf connectors are widely used in video, communication, and measurement equipment because of their relatively good frequency characteristics (DC to 2GHz), small size, and lightweight. They have an impedance of 50Ω and use the bayonet locking method for easy coupling.
BNC type rf connectors are divided into 50Ω and 75Ω. The 50Ω rf connector is mainly used for the transmission of electric power in radio equipment, etc., while the 75Ω rf connector is mainly used for the transmission of video and audio signals in TV receivers, etc.

Trivia : About Cables
- MIL Standard
Compliant with US military standards for cables. Begins with the initials "RG" and is also called Mil-Spec.
- Micro Coaxial Cables
Micro coaxial cables for attaching to miniature RF connectors such as U.FL.
- Semi-flexible
Shape memory coaxial cables can be bent to a certain degree but have high shielding and low loss (attenuation).
- Semi-rigid
Coaxial cables with higher shielding and less attenuation than semi-flexible cables using a seamless metal tube.
BNC 50Ω Type RF Connector Features
Coupling Method
The Bayonet lock method is an easy connection method that does not rely on threading and can be easily connected and disconnected.
Insert the plug into the jack by aligning it with the guide on the jack side, and rotate the ring slightly to lock it in place, and the internal spring force will hold it firmly in place.
It can be quickly removed by turning it slightly in the opposite direction, but since it is secured to the spring by a screw, it cannot be pulled out simply by pulling on the cable.
Trivia: The Origin of BNC
There is a theory that Bayonet Neill Concelman comes from Bayonet and Neill Concelman (the name of the connector manufacturer), from which the name BNC was derived. However, there are several theories as to the origin of the name, including that it simply stands for BayoNet Connector, Baby-series N Connector, and British National Connector.
Many Uses
Because of its low cost, good frequency response, and small size, it is the most common and versatile of all coaxial connectors. They are used in various applications, including measurement, communication, computer for video signals, office equipment, communication equipment (terminals and mobile devices), measuring equipment, audio-visual equipment, home appliances, and factory automation equipment. They are sometimes used as enhanced versions of RCA terminals (pin terminals) for simple electrical signal transmission and reception.
Impedance
BNC connectors are divided into 50Ω and 75Ω. The 50Ω type is mainly used for transmitting electric power in radio equipment, etc., while the 75Ω type is primarily used for sending video and audio signals to TV receivers, etc. When a 75Ω cable is used with a 50Ω type connector, a 75Ω transmission line can be used if the frequency is 200MHz or lower. If the frequency exceeds 200MHz, using BNC 75Ω connectors is recommended.

BNC 50Ω Type RF Connector FAQ
QCan the BNC and 75Ω types be coupled?
QCan the BNC and 75Ω types be coupled?
Yes, it can. For example, there is no problem in combining a BNC75Ω jack + 50Ω BNC plug + 75Ω cable. However, since it can only be used at frequencies below 200MHz, we recommend that the impedances be matched.

QIs there a way to make the cable assembly more inexpensive?
QIs there a way to make the cable assembly more inexpensive?
We have connectors with a crimp-type cable attachment. Although a crimping tool is required for the assembly, it is lighter and less expensive than the clamping type connectors. You do not need to purchase crimping tools if you request us to process the cable assembly.
QAre there any products with a stronger attachment between the connector and the cable?
QAre there any products with a stronger attachment between the connector and the cable?
Although slightly more expensive than the crimp type mentioned above, the clamping type is a more robust connection method. Among the clamping types, the "Z" series, which uses the triple chuck method, has a clamping nut that bites into the cable jacket, making it a more difficult connection method to disconnect.
QAre there plugs that do not require soldering or crimping tools?
QAre there plugs that do not require soldering or crimping tools?
We have one-touch tightening type plugs. Soldering is time-consuming for on-site processing. Also, since crimping tools are expensive, it is rare to purchase them for small lots of connectors. The one-touch tightening type plugs are helpful to solve the hassle of on-site processing.
QI want to use a right angle connector, but there is no compatible cable.
QI want to use a right angle connector, but there is no compatible cable.
Not only BNC connectors, but if no right angle connector fits your cable, you can often use a combination of a straight type and a right angle adapter.
QDo you have waterproof connectors?
QDo you have waterproof connectors?
BNC waterproof connectors are available. IP level differs depending on the product.
- Waterproofing of connector mating parts
- Waterproofing of the tube at the cable attachment point
- O-ring waterproofing at the cable attachment point
- O-ring waterproofing at flange mounting
